Nevados de Chillán

Nevados de Chillán is an active volcanic complex in the Biobío Region of south-central Chile, in the Andes. It comprises multiple stratovolcano summits, crater zones and geothermal areas and is one of the region’s principal volcanic systems.

Alpine slopes and winter-sport facilities at Termas de Chillán, plus views of fumaroles and volcanic landforms from designated observation points when conditions allow. The combination of volcanic terrain and resort infrastructure makes the area popular for skiing and mountain recreation as well as for vulcanological interest.

The complex has produced eruptions and ongoing fumarolic activity in recent decades, and it is monitored by Chilean geological agencies; local authorities occasionally restrict access during increased activity. Scientific studies and monitoring installations focus on eruptive behaviour and geothermal phenomena.
