Laja Falls

Laja Falls (Salto del Laja) are a series of waterfalls on the Laja River in Chile’s Bío-Bío Region, notable for their tiered cascade across volcanic rock. The falls are a well-known roadside attraction in the region.

The waterfall complex consists of multiple drops over rock ledges and is commonly visited for short walks and viewpoints close to the roadside. The falls are visually striking where the river flows over resistant lava formations.

The falls developed where river flow encounters a band of harder volcanic rock, producing the stepped cascades. They have long been known as a local natural landmark and tourist stop.

Salto del Laja lies in the Bío-Bío Region of central Chile, a short distance from the city of Los Ángeles and accessible by regional roads.

• Access: The falls are located a short drive from the city of Los Ángeles in Chile and are easily reached from the Pan-American route through the Bío-Bío Region.

• Visit early on a weekday morning to avoid heavy local weekend crowds and to get clearer views from the main panoramic viewpoints.
• Walk both the upper viewpoint (for the classic wide view of the four-tiered falls) and the lower platforms close to the water to experience different perspectives-the two are a short drive/walk from each other.
• Combine the waterfall visit with a short scenic drive toward Los Ángeles or nearby viewpoints along Route 5; local vendors and viewpoints close to the site are useful for maps and refreshments.
