How to Get to Navrongo

Navrongo in Ghana's Upper East Region is reached primarily overland by coach or private car with Tamale the nearest airport hub for domestic flights. Bus and shared minibus services are the everyday transport methods for local and intercity travel.

By Air

Tamale Airport (TML): The closest domestic airport serving northern Ghana; from Tamale you can reach Navrongo by road (a multi-hour drive). For greater choice of international flights travellers typically fly via Accra (ACC) and continue by road or domestic flight where available.

Kotoka International Airport (ACC): Accra is the main international gateway; long-distance bus and coach services connect Accra to northern cities, but journeys are lengthy (often overnight) and best done by scheduled coach or domestic flights to Tamale followed by road connections to Navrongo.

By Train & Bus

Train: Ghana’s rail network has limited passenger service in the north and is not a practical standard option for reaching Navrongo.

Bus: Long-distance coaches and regional buses (including STC and private operators) link Tamale, Bolgatanga and Navrongo. Bus travel is the normal public option; expect fares and journey times to vary by operator and season - local minibuses (trotro) cover shorter routes and are very economical.
