Nan Hua Temple

Nan Hua Temple is a large Fo Guang Shan Buddhist temple and monastic complex located in Gauteng province, South Africa. It serves as a regional headquarters for the Taiwanese Fo Guang Shan order and functions as both a place of worship and an educational centre.

The complex includes a main shrine hall with traditional Chinese temple architecture, meditation and ceremony spaces, and separate buildings for study and community programs. Regular public activities include meditation classes, Buddhist festivals, and guided visits for visitors.

The temple was established by the Fo Guang Shan organisation in the 1990s to create a regional base for monastic training, cultural outreach, and religious practice in southern Africa. Since opening it has hosted public religious observances and educational programs.

Nan Hua Temple is located near Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng, accessible by road from Pretoria and Johannesburg, and occupies a landscaped site set aside for the monastic buildings and visitor facilities.
