Namcha Barwa
Mountain Isolated Himalayan peak marking eastern Himalayan bend
Namcha Barwa rises in eastern Tibet at the head of the Yarlung Tsangpo gorge; its steep relief and remote location interest mountaineers and river geographers.
Namcha Barwa is a major Himalayan peak in the Tibet Autonomous Region with an elevation of about 7,782 metres. It occupies a dramatic position at the eastern end of the Himalaya above the deep gorge carved by the Yarlung Tsangpo (which becomes the Brahmaputra downstream).

The peak and its environs are remote, with limited road access and challenging weather that have historically made exploration and climbing difficult.
Geographically it sits in the eastern Tibetan highlands, within the administration of the Tibet Autonomous Region, and dominates local river valleys and highland terrain.
