Myndus
Archaeological Site Ancient Carian coastal city ruins near modern Bodrum
Near modern Bodrum, the ancient Myndus preserves city walls, a small theatre and a ruined harbour; visitors combine archaeology visits with Aegean boat trips and coastal walks.
Myndus (Myndos) is an ancient Greek coastal settlement on the Aegean shore in what is now Muğla Province, Turkey. The site occupies a coastal promontory and served historically as a port in the region of Caria.
Remains at the site include sections of defensive walls and traces of harbour-related structures set along a rocky shoreline. The ruins are modest and visited mainly by those interested in ancient coastal settlements and regional archaeology.
Myndus belonged to the network of Greek settlements on the southwestern Anatolian coast and formed part of Carian coastal organization in antiquity. Over time the site fell into ruin and survives today as exposed masonry and scattered archaeological features.
The ruins lie on the Aegean coast of Muğla Province near the modern coastal settlements on the Bodrum-Güllük coast, within the seaward landscape of southwestern Turkey.
