Museo Galileo

The Museo Galileo in Florence is a museum of the history of science that displays original scientific instruments and archives from Tuscany’s historic collections. It traces its institutional origins to the early 20th century and was relaunched publicly as the Museo Galileo in the 21st century.

The museum’s collections originated in the Medici and Lorraine court collections and were assembled into a public institute in the 20th century to preserve and exhibit Tuscany’s scientific heritage. Over time the holdings were reorganized and the institution adopted the Museo Galileo name to emphasize the link to Galileo and early modern science.
