The Musée Nissim de Camondo is a Paris house museum that presents a high-quality collection of 18th-century French decorative arts and furnishings displayed in an early 20th-century mansion. The collection was assembled by the Camondo family and the house is set up to reflect its original domestic layout.

Rooms are arranged and furnished to show period interiors with original pieces of furniture, silver, porcelain and tapestries, giving visitors an intact example of a private decorative arts collection in a domestic setting. The building itself is notable as an example of early 20th-century Parisian residential architecture.

The mansion was created in the early 20th century by the Camondo family to house their collection and was later opened as a museum to display these holdings for the public. The institution preserves both the collection and the house interiors as a unified historic ensemble.

The museum sits on the northern edge of Paris’s Parc Monceau in the 8th arrondissement, within easy walking distance of central Paris attractions.

• Highlights: Houses an important collection of 18th-century French furniture, tapestries and porcelain arranged in a preserved early 20th-century private house setting.

From Gare Saint-Lazare or Opéra take Metro line 3 to Saint-Lazare and walk (~10-15 minutes) or take Metro line 2 to Monceau (200-300 m). The house faces Parc Monceau at 63 Rue de Monceau.

• Enter from Rue de Monceau and not the park side to avoid the crush that forms at the palace gate.
• Ask for the rooms' original lighting plan; the staff can point out where sconces and mirrors amplified light in the 18th century.
• Don't skip the basement: the silver dining service and kitchen equipment have a savage, practical beauty that contrasts the salons upstairs.
