Murano Glass Museum

The Murano Glass Museum (Museo del Vetro) is situated on Murano island in the Venetian lagoon and documents the history and techniques of Venetian glassmaking. Its displays cover historical glass production as well as 20th- and 21st-century glass art.

Exhibits include archaeological glass, Renaissance and Baroque pieces, and modern studio glass, with explanatory material on methods such as blowing, casting and lampworking. The museum is complemented by the living industry on Murano where glass studios and furnaces remain active.

The museum’s collections were assembled to preserve and present Murano’s glassmaking heritage, bringing together historical works and later donations to illustrate changes in technique and style. Over time it has become a primary reference for Venetian glass history.

Sited on Murano island within the Venice municipality, the museum is reached by vaporetto services from central Venice and is part of the island’s cluster of glass workshops and showrooms.
