Why Visit Murano? #

On a lagoon islet just off Venice, this island is synonymous with centuries of glassmaking: skilled glassblowers, family-run ateliers and the Museo del Vetro showcase blown art and techniques. Shoppers come for original Murano glass jewelry and chandeliers, and museum demonstrations turn craft into performance. Quiet canals and the Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato add historic weight, while local bacari serve Venetian cicchetti and seafood to round out an artisanal, island experience.

How to Get to Murano

Murano is an island in the Venetian lagoon best reached via water transport from Venice - either Alilaguna shuttles from Marco Polo airport or ACTV vaporetti from Venezia Santa Lucia/Piazzale Roma. Expect to spend 20-60 minutes on water transport depending on origin and service.

By Air

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE): The main international airport for reaching Murano. From the airport you can take the Alilaguna water shuttle (Line Blu/Linea Arancio) directly to Murano stops (e.g., Museo, Faro) - journey time about 40-60 minutes; Alilaguna fares are roughly €8-15 depending on the line.

Treviso Airport (TSF): A secondary option; from Treviso take a bus to Venezia Mestre or Piazzale Roma then waterbus to Murano. Overall travel time is longer and involves a transfer at Piazzale Roma or Fondamente Nove.

By Train & Bus

Train: Arrive at Venezia Santa Lucia station; from there walk to Piazzale Roma and take ACTV vaporetto lines 4.1 / 4.2 or other lines serving Murano (eg. direct lines from Fondamente Nove). Vaporetto travel from Santa Lucia to Murano takes about 20-35 minutes depending on the line; single ACTV tickets are typically €8 (75‑minute ticket).

Bus: Land buses terminate at Piazzale Roma in Venice - from there you switch to vaporetto water buses to reach Murano.

How to Get Around Murano #

Murano is a small, walkable island just off Venice; the vaporetto (public boat) lines serve several stops on the island and connect to Venice and nearby islands. Buy ACTV vaporetto tickets for single trips or time-based passes - fares are a few euros per journey unless you have a multi-day pass. There are no cars; expect to walk or take boats for every trip.

Where to Stay in Murano #

Budget
Museo / Venice ferry stops - €60-120/night
Murano mainly has small guesthouses and budget B&Bs; staying on Venice proper can be more expensive but offers more options.
Mid-Range

A few mid-range hotels provide comfortable stays with canal views and easy vaporetto access to Venice. Choices are limited but pleasant.
Luxury
