How to Get to Mto wa Mbu#
Mto wa Mbu is accessed by road from Kilimanjaro International (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK); transfers, shuttle vans and local minibuses are the standard options. There is no rail access-most visitors arrive by air into JRO and continue by road.
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): JRO is the main international gateway for northern Tanzania (safaris and Arusha). From JRO you can reach Mto wa Mbu by shuttle, private transfer or taxi via Arusha and the Manyara route; road time is typically around 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic and exact stop.
Arusha Airport (ARK): Arusha has a smaller airport with regional flights. From Arusha town take a taxi or a dala-dala (shared minibus) to Mto wa Mbu; the drive is about 1-1.5 hours depending on road conditions.
Train: There is no passenger rail service directly serving Mto wa Mbu; Tanzania’s long-distance passenger rail network does not connect this tourist corridor.
