Most international travelers arrive via Maputo Airport (MPM), Mozambique’s primary gateway and one of the country’s two major airports handling high volumes of traffic. It is the main air entry point for reaching Maputo and the wider Maputo and the South Coast region.
Beyond the capital, several other airports help cover Mozambique’s long coastline and key regional centers. Beira International Airport (BEW) serves Beira, a major transport hub for central Mozambique, while Nampula Airport (APL) is a useful gateway to Nampula and onward travel toward the north, including the Island of Mozambique. Chingozi Airport (TET) links to Tete, and Vilankulo Airport (VNX) aligns with Vilankulo’s role as a gateway town for the Bazaruto Archipelago. Inhambane Airport (INH) ties into travel around Inhambane and nearby Tofo.
Domestic flying through airports like Pemba Airport (POL), Quelimane Airport (UEL), Chimoio Airport (VPY), and Lichinga Airport (VXC) can shorten travel times between distant regions, complementing overland routes that pass through places such as Nhamatanda and Mocuba.
