Mount Ōyama (Kanagawa)

Mount Ōyama is a peak in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, known for its religious significance and mountain hiking; its summit reaches 1,252 metres. The mountain lies within the broader Tanzawa-Ōyama area and is a long-established site of pilgrimage.

The mountain offers several waymarked hiking routes of varying difficulty and a short funicular that reduces walking time to the shrine approaches. Walks typically include forested slopes, rocky ridges and the shrine precincts; summit days often include panoramic coastal views.

A Shinto shrine, Ōyama Afuri Shrine, occupies the upper slopes and has been a destination for worship and mountain pilgrimage for many centuries. The site has long been used for religious observance and local mountain cult practices and remains an active shrine today.

Geographically it sits on the edge of the Sagami plain near the city of Isehara in central Kanagawa Prefecture, within commuting distance of the Tokyo metropolitan area and reachable by public transport from towns on the Sagami line.
