About Mount Hermon#
Mount Hermon is a multi-summit massif in the Anti-Lebanon range on the border region between Syria and Lebanon, with a highest point of about 2,814 metres and extensive snowfields at higher elevations. It is a geographically prominent feature in the Levant and the highest elevation in Syria.
The massif offers high-altitude terrain, perennial springs and snow-covered slopes in winter, with visible ridgelines and steep escarpments. The mountain is valued for its hydrological importance as a source area for downstream rivers and for seasonal outdoor activities in colder months.
Hermon has been referenced in historical and religious sources across the region and has long been recognized as a distinct natural landmark. In the modern era it remains an important geographic and climatic feature in the borderlands of the Levant.
Geographically the massif straddles the international boundary region between Syria and Lebanon and lies near the Golan Heights. It forms the northeastern edge of the Anti-Lebanon range and overlooks surrounding agricultural plains.

Access depends on which country’s slopes are intended: the Israeli side has organized access and ski facilities from the Golan; Lebanese and Syrian approaches are subject to border and security conditions and require permits.
Tips for Visiting Mount Hermon#
- If skiing or visiting snowfields, check which side of Mount Hermon is accessible-Israeli-run lifts and Syrian-controlled slopes have different access rules.
- Visibility can be excellent in winter; bring snow goggles and layered clothing if visiting snowy parts.
- Hiking in summer requires sun protection and plenty of water; facilities are limited outside organized resorts.
