Mount Hermon is a multi-summit massif in the Anti-Lebanon range on the border region between Syria and Lebanon, with a highest point of about 2,814 metres and extensive snowfields at higher elevations. It is a geographically prominent feature in the Levant and the highest elevation in Syria.

The massif offers high-altitude terrain, perennial springs and snow-covered slopes in winter, with visible ridgelines and steep escarpments. The mountain is valued for its hydrological importance as a source area for downstream rivers and for seasonal outdoor activities in colder months.

Hermon has been referenced in historical and religious sources across the region and has long been recognized as a distinct natural landmark. In the modern era it remains an important geographic and climatic feature in the borderlands of the Levant.

Geographically the massif straddles the international boundary region between Syria and Lebanon and lies near the Golan Heights. It forms the northeastern edge of the Anti-Lebanon range and overlooks surrounding agricultural plains.

  • Elevation: Highest point on the Mount Hermon massif reaches approximately 2,814 metres, making it the highest elevation in Syria.
  • Weather note: Seasonal snow makes winter visits possible for snow-related activities in some years; weather conditions vary rapidly and require proper equipment for high-altitude hikes.

What to See #

  • Summit massif: The summit area forms a multi-peaked massif whose highest point reaches about 2,814 metres and contains snowfields and perennial springs that feed downstream watercourses.
  • Spring sources: Upper slopes are the source area for several springs that contribute to the headwaters of rivers in the surrounding region; these springs have been important for local water supply for centuries.
