Lake Qaraoun is an artificial reservoir in Lebanon’s Beqaa Governorate created on the Litani River. It is the largest man-made lake in Lebanon and an important component of the region’s water management.

The reservoir and surrounding lakeshore attract local visitors for informal recreation and birdwatching, and the area supports irrigation and fisheries. Access and facilities are limited compared with natural tourist destinations.

The lake was formed when the Litani River was dammed to provide irrigation, water supply, and hydroelectric potential for the Beqaa Valley; it has been central to regional agricultural development since the dam’s construction. The reservoir’s size and seasonal levels reflect water-management needs and river inflow.

Lake Qaraoun lies in the central Beqaa Valley of Lebanon on the Litani River, surrounded by agricultural land and small towns of the valley.
