Mount Gayong
Mountain Popular Perak hiking peak with tropical forest
Part of Perak’s highlands, Mount Gayong is a common objective for hikers tackling the Titiwangsa Range-often climbed in tandem with nearby Mount Korbu via jungle trails and ridge walking.
Mount Gayong is a mountain in Perak in the Titiwangsa Range of Peninsular Malaysia, notable for its high elevation and ridge connection to nearby peaks. It sits among a cluster of highland peaks that attract hillwalkers and mountaineers.
Hiking here is strenuous and often done as a ridge traverse that links to adjacent summits. Trails are steep and remote and commonly require full-day or multi-day planning by experienced parties. The mountain offers ridge-line terrain and montane forest typical of Peninsular Malaysia’s highlands.
The peak forms part of the same massif as Mount Korbu and other high peaks in Perak; it has long been used for recreational mountaineering rather than for permanent settlement or other development. Over time routes have become better known among local hiking clubs and guiding groups.
Geographically it lies in central-northern Perak within Peninsular Malaysia’s main north-south mountain chain. The nearest sizable urban centre is the city of Ipoh to the west, which serves as a common staging point for trips into the highlands.
- Typical ascent: Often climbed together with nearby Mount Korbu as a multi-peak ridge route, making it a common multi-day trek for experienced hikers.
- Height: Elevation around 2,173 metres, placing it among the higher peaks of Peninsular Malaysia and within the Titiwangsa Range.
