How to Get to Mount Diablo #
From San Francisco or Oakland, take I-680 or I-24 toward Walnut Creek/Clayton and follow signs to Mount Diablo State Park. Public transit to nearby towns is possible but driving is the most direct way to reach trailheads and the summit road.
Tips for Visiting Mount Diablo #
- Drive up the north gate (Mitchell Canyon Road) for a gentler ascent; the summit road can be steep and winding.
- On clear days the summit panorama includes the San Francisco skyline and Sierra Nevada; sunrise and sunset are especially rewarding.
- Bring layers even on warm days - summit temperatures can be much cooler and windy.
