Mount Conness is a high peak on the Sierra Nevada crest in eastern California, straddling the boundary of the Yosemite area and Inyo National Forest. It is noted for its high, exposed ridges and remaining alpine glaciers.
A prominent granite summit and ridgeline that attract climbers and scramblers; the normal approaches come from the Tioga Pass/Mono Lake side with routes that involve snow slopes, exposed scrambling and at times glacier travel. The mountain overlooks Tioga Pass and offers broad views of the high Sierra, with summit elevations typically reported around 12,590 feet (about 3,840 meters).
Named in the 19th century after John Conness, a U.S. senator who helped preserve parts of the Sierra. The peak has long been a mountaineering objective since the late 1800s and remains valued for alpine climbs and ridge traverses.
Sits on the Sierra Nevada crest near Tioga Pass in eastern California, north of Yosemite Valley and east of the main Yosemite high country. The nearest road access is Tioga Road (California Route 120) and the nearest towns on the eastern side are Lee Vining and Mono Lake.
