Moti Masjid (Agra Fort)

Moti Masjid is a small white marble mosque located within the UNESCO-listed Agra Fort in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. It dates from the mid-17th century and is commonly translated as the “Pearl Mosque.”

The mosque consists of a compact prayer hall with three domes set on a raised platform and a sheltered verandah of arched openings facing an elevated courtyard. Its polished white marble surfaces and restrained decoration stand in contrast to the surrounding red sandstone buildings of the fort. Visitors typically view it as one of several fine Mughal-era structures within the fort complex.

The mosque was built under the patronage of the Mughal imperial court in the mid-1600s during the reign of Shah Jahan and served as a private imperial or court mosque. It has remained part of the Agra Fort ensemble since its construction and is preserved as an example of Shah Jahan-era marble architecture.

Situated inside Agra Fort on the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra, it is accessed via the fort’s internal circulation; the fort itself sits within the city of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, India.
