01d-ud-Daulah is a Mughal-era mausoleum in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, celebrated for its white marble construction and detailed inlay work. It is often cited as an architectural precursor to the Taj Mahal.

Visitors go to view the finely carved marble panels, pietra dura (stone inlay) ornamentation and the formal gardens that frame the tomb. The building is smaller in scale than later Mughal mausoleums but notable for its extensive stone lattice screens and decorative panels.

The tomb was commissioned in the early 17th century by Empress Nur Jahan for her father, Mirza Ghiyas Beg, and completed during the early Mughal period. Its use of full marble cladding and detailed inlay marks a transitional moment in Mughal funerary architecture.

Located on the eastern bank of the Yamuna River in Agra, the tomb is within the city and accessible from other major sites such as the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

The Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah (the “Baby Taj”) is in Agra on the east bank of the Yamuna, close to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. From Agra’s main rail stations (Agra Cantt or Agra Fort) or the central bus station you can take a taxi, app-hire, or an auto‑rickshaw to the site; it is inside Agra city so a short drive from those hubs. Local cycle‑rickshaws and taxis will drop you at the entrance - expect a short walk (a few hundred metres) from roadside parking or drop‑off to the tomb.

• Go early in the morning (shortly after opening) to see the intricate pietra dura and marble jali work in softer light and with far fewer visitors than later in the day.
• Treat it as a short, detail-focused stop rather than a full-day site - plan to spend 45-90 minutes studying the inlay panels and the symmetrical charbagh garden that many visitors breeze past.
• Combine the visit with nearby Agra attractions (Taj Mahal, Agra Fort) to save travel time; visiting this smaller tomb before the Taj helps you appreciate the scale and decorative differences between the two sites.
