Mosquito Range

The Mosquito Range is a north-south mountain range in central Colorado, United States, notable for multiple high peaks including several over 14,000 feet. The range extends for roughly 40 miles (about 65 kilometers) through central Colorado high country.

High alpine ridges and saddles, exposed summits and old mining roads define the visitor experience; common activities include hiking, off-road driving and peak-bagging of the range’s ‘fourteeners’. Snow persists at high elevations into summer, so most routes are best used from late June through September.

The range saw extensive mining activity in the 19th century and retains many historic mining sites and abandoned roads tied to that era. Those features shape access and are a secondary draw for visitors interested in Colorado’s mining history.

Geographically the Mosquito Range lies in central Colorado, east of the Continental Divide, with nearby towns such as Leadville, Alma and Fairplay serving as common access points.

• Mining heritage: Extensive old mining roads and ghost-town sites remain in the range, providing 4x4 access and historical interest.

What to See #

• Mount Lincoln: Located in central Colorado, it hosts several of the state's 'fourteeners' including Mount Lincoln at 4,352 m (14,286 ft).
• Mount Bross: Part of the cluster of high summits often visited together with Mount Lincoln and Mount Democrat; elevation approximately 4,320 m (14,172 ft).
• Mount Democrat: One of the contiguous high peaks in the range, commonly climbed in combination with nearby summits; elevation above 4,300 m.
