The Mosque of Sultan al-Muayyad is a Mamluk-era mosque in historic Cairo, built in the early 15th century by Sultan al-Mu’ayyad. It is sited adjacent to and integrated with the medieval city gate known as Bab Zuweila in the quarter traditionally referred to as Islamic Cairo.
Architectural highlights include the mosque’s stone portals, a rectangular open courtyard, and a covered prayer hall; the two minarets rise from the nearby gate structure and form a distinct pair when viewed from the surrounding streets. The mosque displays the carved stonework and Mamluk detailing typical of its period.
