Monte Rotondo
Mountain Corsican mountain with dramatic granite ridges
Monte Rotondo is a Corsican peak on interior trails; long-distance hikers and backpackers tackle its granite ridges as part of multi‑day routes across the island.
Monte Rotondo is a high peak in central Corsica and ranks among the island’s tallest mountains, rising to roughly the mid-2,600-metre range. The mountain forms part of Corsica’s central massif and is a key objective on the island’s high mountain trails.
The mountain is reached by steep, rocky trails and is often visited in conjunction with other high-Corsica routes; nearby alpine lakes and steep granite cirques are characteristic features of the local landscape. Hikers use established paths that link the summit area to the Restonica valley and the GR20 long-distance trail network.
The massif is of granitic origin and has been shaped by alpine glaciation, producing steep faces and bowls that now host mountain lakes and scree slopes. Over recent decades the area has become a core part of Corsican mountain trekking and conservation efforts.
Monte Rotondo lies in central Corsica near the town of Corte, with common trailheads in the Restonica valley and other central-mountain access points.
- Scale and access: One of Corsica's highest summits, sitting above the Restonica valley and accessed from the town of Corte and its mountain trail network.
