Monte Legnone
Mountain Lone Lombardy summit overlooking Lake Como region
Monte Legnone rises near Italy’s Lake Como region; hikers and ridge-walkers use its trails for high‑altitude views over valleys and the pre-Alpine landscape.
Monte Legnone is a high, isolated mountain at the northern end of Lake Como in Lombardy, Italy, rising above the town of Colico. The peak forms a conspicuous massif at the head of the lake and is a well-known target for day hikes from the lake shore.
Trail routes climb steeply from valley villages to the summit where clear views open over Lake Como, the Valtellina and surrounding Alpine ridges. The mountain’s slopes are used for summer hiking and occasionally for winter alpine activities in snow seasons.
The massif is a natural limestone and crystalline formation of the southern Alps and has been part of local pastoral and mountaineering use for centuries, with access routes improved in the 20th century. Its position at the lake head makes it an important local landmark and recreational destination.
Monte Legnone rises above the northern tip of Lake Como near Colico in Lombardy, where valley roads and trailheads provide the usual approach.
