Monte Binga
Mountain Mozambique's highest peak on the Zimbabwe border
Mozambique’s highest point on the Zimbabwe border, a steep granite massif popular with experienced hikers for challenging ascents, rare montane flora and wide views across the border.
Monte Binga is the highest mountain in Mozambique, located in the border highlands of Manica Province within the Chimanimani/Manica mountain system. It is the country’s tallest peak and is known for steep slopes and granite cliffs.
The mountain attracts hikers and climbers who access routes from the Mozambican or Zimbabwean sides; routes involve steep walking and simple scrambling. Vegetation changes with altitude, from montane grassland and heath near the summit to denser woodland lower down.
Historically the massif has been part of local rural land use and seasonal grazing; in recent decades interest has grown for trekking and cross-border conservation with adjacent highland areas in Zimbabwe.
Monte Binga sits on the Mozambique-Zimbabwe border in Manica Province, forming part of a rugged highland landscape rather than an isolated peak.
