Monte Baldo Mountains

Monte Baldo is a long mountain ridge on the eastern shore of Lake Garda in northern Italy, straddling the Veneto and Trentino regions. Its ridge rises sharply from the lake to high peaks, the highest of which is Cima Valdritta at about 2,218 meters.

The area is renowned for botanical diversity and panoramic views over Lake Garda, and it is popular for hiking, mountain biking and paragliding. A cable car from the town of Malcesine provides direct access to the ridge and is the principal route for tourists.

Monte Baldo forms a natural barrier along the lake’s eastern shore and is set within a mix of Mediterranean lower slopes and alpine terrain higher up, making it a notable feature of the Lake Garda landscape.

• Ridge and peaks: High-elevation ridgeline with peaks such as Cima Valdritta culminating near 2,218 meters, forming the backbone of the Monte Baldo massif and supporting alpine flora.

Monte Baldo is commonly accessed from the town of Malcesine on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. From Malcesine take the Funivia Malcesine-Monte Baldo cable car from the valley station in town up to the ridge; from the upper station the main hiking trails and viewpoints are a short walk. Malcesine is reachable by road (local SP roads) and by regular lake ferry services; there is public parking in town near the cable car.

• Take the cable car from Malcesine to reach Monte Baldo quickly - this gives you immediate access to high-altitude viewpoints over Lake Garda and saves a long ascent.
• Plan an early visit for morning light on the lake and to avoid the busiest cable-car return times; once up top, explore the quieter eastern ridges where many day visitors do not go.
• Combine a Baldo visit with a Malcesine ferry or town stop to avoid repeat driving on narrow roads and to make the most of local transport links.
