The white marble and granite palace sits on a hill and provides panoramic vistas across Udaipur, including Lake Pichola and the surrounding Aravalli hills. It is frequented for sunset views and short walks to the terraces and viewing pavilions.
Commissioned in the late 19th century by Maharana Sajjan Singh, the palace was intended as an observatory to watch approaching monsoon weather and was never completed to its original plan. Over time it has become a civic viewpoint and tourist attraction.
Perched on the hill known as Bansdara, the palace overlooks central Udaipur and lies a short drive north of the city’s main lakeside districts.
