Millstätter See Lake

Millstätter See is a freshwater lake in Carinthia, southern Austria, set in an alpine basin and known for clear water and lakeside towns. The lake is a regional recreational destination with historic settlements and cultural sites along its shores.

ÖBB regional trains stop at Spittal-Millstättersee station; from that station local buses or a short taxi ride take you to towns and beaches around the lake (many lakeside spots are a 5-15 minute walk from bus stops or parking areas).

• Go at first light for calm water and better reflections over the lake-this is the best time for photography and to enjoy quieter shores before day-trippers arrive.
