Mesa Arch is a natural sandstone arch located on the Island in the Sky mesa in Canyonlands National Park, southeastern Utah. It is widely known for its photogenic framing of the canyon and distant La Sal Mountains, especially at sunrise.
A compact, easily walked viewpoint sits immediately behind the arch and draws large numbers of photographers at dawn. The arch frames deep canyons and the rocky landscape below, producing a distinctive foreground for landscape photography.
The arch formed by natural erosion of sandstone layers over geological time and is part of the park’s broad canyon-and-mesa landscape. Management focuses on maintaining the short trail and viewpoints to handle heavy visitor use.
Mesa Arch sits on the Island in the Sky plateau within Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah. It is reached from the park road network and is a short walk from the roadside parking area.

How to Get to Mesa Arch #
Mesa Arch is on the Island in the Sky mesa in Canyonlands National Park, about 30 miles (50 km) from Moab, Utah by road. From the Island in the Sky visitor center, follow signed routes to the Mesa Arch parking area; the arch is a short (0.5 mile / ~800 m) well-marked trail from the lot. Canyonlands has a park entrance fee (per vehicle) payable at the gate.
