How to Get to Menouf#
Menouf (Monufia Governorate) is most easily reached from Cairo by rail or by road via Cairo-Alexandria routes. The national rail line that runs through the Nile Delta provides a reliable and inexpensive option; buses and microbuses serve as flexible alternatives.
Cairo International (CAI): Cairo is the main international gateway; from CAI you can reach Menouf by onward road or rail travel. Many travellers transfer into central Cairo (Ramses Station) then take an Egyptian National Railways service toward Menouf/Tanta or a bus along the Cairo-Alexandria road. Road transfer time is typically 1-2 hours from central Cairo depending on traffic.
Borg El Arab / Alexandria (HBE): Alexandria’s airport is farther and less convenient for Menouf than Cairo, but it is a possible alternative if you are coming from the west; travel times from Alexandria to Menouf are longer by road.
Train: Menouf is served by Egypt’s national rail network (Menouf station on the Cairo-Alexandria corridor is the local stop). Trains from Cairo (Ramses Station) to Menouf or nearby Tanta take roughly 1.5-2 hours depending on stopping pattern; third-class/sleeper fares are very low (single-digit to low double-digit EGP for most short/intermediate journeys).
Bus / Microbus: Intercity microbuses and buses run between Cairo, Tanta and Menouf with frequent departures from Cairo coach terminals. Buses and microbuses are an economical, often faster alternative in practice depending on schedule and traffic.
How to Get Around Menouf#
Menouf is well connected by Egypt’s rail corridor and by road. For the best balance of cost and convenience, take a train from Cairo into the Delta and use local taxis or microbuses for last-mile travel.
- Egyptian National Railways (EGP 5-30) - Trains from Cairo (Ramses) to Menouf/Tanta are frequent on the Nile Delta corridor. Trains are inexpensive and a reliable way to avoid road congestion; choose a higher class for more comfort on longer journeys.
- Intercity bus / microbus (EGP 10-70) - Buses and microbuses connect Menouf with Cairo, Alexandria and nearby cities. They depart from major coach hubs and are useful for places not directly served by rail; quality varies by operator.
- Shared taxi / private taxi (EGP 50-400) - Shared taxis are common for shorter hops; private taxis provide door-to-door service between cities and can be a practical option when travelling with luggage or outside bus schedules. Agree fares in advance or insist on the meter where available.
- Private car hire / intercity shuttle (EGP 300-1,200+) - Hiring a private car with driver or arranging a shuttle through a hotel is convenient for groups, early/late arrivals or direct transfers from Cairo Airport. This removes uncertainty over connections but costs more than public options.
- Walking - Menouf’s town centre and local markets are compact and best explored on foot; use walking for short trips within the town.
