How to Get to Mbéré Valley National Park #

The nearest regional hub is Ngaoundéré (about 120-180 km to the west depending on which valley approach is used). From Ngaoundéré, travel is by 4x4 on unpaved roads and seasonal tracks; local transport operators and tour guides arrange access. Expect long travel times and to pass through several Fulani villages en route. There are no regular public shuttles into the park; hiring a vehicle with local driver/guide is the practical route.

Tips for Visiting Mbéré Valley National Park #

  • Visit during the late dry season (December-February) for the best wildlife sightings; rivers are lower and animals concentrate at waterholes.
  • Hire a local guide from Ngaoundéré or the nearby village councils - they know seasonal tracks and private grazing agreements.
  • Bring insect repellent and long sleeves for dusk; tsetse flies and mosquitoes are common at the edge of gallery forest.
  • Respect pastoral lands: much of the valley is used by Fulani herders; ask permission before entering private grazing areas.
