From Francistown, road travel is required to reach Masunga; arrange a shared taxi, private transfer or local bus. Road travel times are typically around 1.5-2.5 hours depending on the route and vehicle.
Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE), Gaborone: Gaborone is much farther and not practical for direct travel to Masunga unless combining with an overland itinerary across Botswana.

Bus / road transport: Access to Masunga is primarily by road from Francistown and other towns. Shared taxis (kombis) and regional buses operate on these routes - these are the common public options. Private hires and 4x4s are also used for comfort and reliability on rural roads.
How to Get Around Masunga#
Masunga is best reached overland from Francistown by shared taxi, bus or private transfer; public options are basic and somewhat informal. For comfort and schedule certainty, arrange a private transfer or hire a car.
- Shared taxis / kombis (P30-P100 (approx.)) - Shared minibuses are the most common public option for inter-town travel in the region. They depart when full and are economical; expect basic comfort and fixed fares for common routes. Timetables can be informal, so allow time for departures.
- Private transfer / taxi (P300-P1,200 (approx.)) - Private taxis or pre-booked transfers provide direct door-to-door service and are useful for luggage or tight schedules. Agree the fare in advance and use reputable operators where possible.
- Car hire / self-drive (€40-€80/day (rental)) - Hiring a vehicle gives flexibility for visiting villages and remote attractions. Several rental operators operate from Francistown; choose a vehicle suitable for unpaved roads if you plan off‑pavement travel.
- Local minibuses / buses (P30-P150) - Scheduled buses connect major towns but may be less frequent to smaller settlements. They are inexpensive but slower than private transfers and may require intermediated connections.
- Motorbike / bicycle (local) (Rental varies) - For short distances near town some travellers use motorcycles or bicycles. Road conditions and distances can make this impractical for longer trips; use caution during the rainy season.
- Walking - Masunga’s village centre is compact and most local errands and visits are done on foot. Walking is the common way to move around the town itself.
