Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park

Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta preserves sites associated with the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., including his childhood home, Ebenezer Baptist Church and the King Center. It is a federal National Historical Park focused on civil rights history.

Exhibits at the visitor center present King’s life, the civil rights movement and related documents and media. The district’s principal sites include the restored birth home, the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where King preached, and the King Center complex with the tomb and memorial plaza.

Congress designated the area as a national historic site and later as a national historical park to protect and interpret King’s legacy and the surrounding historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood. The park encompasses properties acquired to preserve places of significance in King’s life and the movement he led.

Located in Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood, the park sits northeast of downtown Atlanta and is walkable from nearby commercial corridors and transit links.
