Mamure Castle

Mamure Castle is a large medieval fortress on the Mediterranean coast in Mersin Province, Turkey, noted for its extensive curtain walls and multiple towers. It occupies a strategic coastal position near the town of Anamur and is one of the better-preserved examples of a seaside castle in the region.

The complex presents long defensive walls, rounded towers and an inner ward with courtyards and storage rooms, giving a clear sense of its role as a garrisoned coastal stronghold. Walkable ramparts provide views along the coast and to the surrounding agricultural plain.

Construction of the site dates to the medieval period, with major building phases in the 12th and 13th centuries and subsequent repairs and modifications by later regional powers. The fortress served both defensive and administrative functions and was maintained and altered by successive rulers over the centuries.

The castle lies on the Mediterranean shoreline close to Anamur in southern Turkey, in Mersin Province. It stands immediately beside coastal roads and beaches, making it accessible to visitors travelling along the southern Turkish coast.
