Malmøya

Malmøya is a small island in the inner Oslofjord within the Oslo municipality, notable for its coastal scenery and natural habitats. It forms part of the string of islands and skerries immediately south of the city and is used for recreation by residents.

The island’s shoreline is rocky with small beaches and walking paths, and it supports coastal vegetation and seabird nesting sites in season. Access is typically by private boat, kayak or organised excursions from Oslo; facilities are limited and visitors generally come for day visits.

Parts of Malmøya and the nearby skerries are protected for their biological and geological value, with exposed bedrock that has attracted geological study. The island and adjacent islets are managed to balance public access and habitat protection.

Malmøya lies approximately 4 to 5 kilometres south of central Oslo in the inner Oslofjord and is administratively part of the city’s borough area; nearby smaller islets include Malmøykalven.
