About Middelalderparken#
An archaeological park in central Oslo that preserves and presents remains of the medieval city of Oslo. The park contains exposed foundations, grassy open spaces and interpreted excavation areas on the Oslo waterfront.
Visible remains of the medieval town including stone foundations and traces of ecclesiastical and urban structures, integrated into a public park with walkways and information panels. The site sits against the modern Bjørvika waterfront and is accessible from the city center.
The area preserves the footprint of Oslo’s medieval settlement, which lost its urban role after the great fire of 1624 when the city was rebuilt and relocated by royal decree. Archaeological work in the 20th and 21st centuries exposed foundations and layout of the earlier town.
Located in the Bjørvika district on the Oslofjord waterfront, close to Oslo Central Station and the Oslo Opera House in the heart of the city.
