Mainamati is an archaeological complex of Buddhist monasteries, stupas and associated remains on the Lalmai Hills in the Comilla area of Bangladesh. The site contains multiple monastic compounds and votive structures dating primarily to the early medieval period.
Key on-site features include large enclosed monasteries, numerous small stupas and masonry votive deposits that together form a dispersed archaeological landscape. The site has been the subject of systematic excavations that revealed structural layouts, terracotta plaques and other artefacts typical of Pala-period Buddhism.
Excavations and conservation took place through the 20th century under archaeologists working in British India and later under Bangladeshi authorities; finds are displayed locally and have informed understanding of regional monastic life. Mainamati is interpreted as an important regional centre of Buddhist learning and practice during the first millennium and early second millennium CE.
