Madauros is the site of an ancient Numidian and Roman town near the modern settlement of M’daourouch in Souk Ahras Province, northeastern Algeria. It was an established Roman urban centre by the imperial period and retains visible archaeological remains.
Small-scale excavations and surface remains show a compact Roman townscape with a theatre, baths and funerary monuments; the site is primarily visited for its ruins and epigraphic material. Interpretation is limited on site, so visitors often go with a guide or after consulting published surveys.
The settlement developed under Numidian and then Roman administration and remained occupied through late antiquity, serving as a regional centre and later a Christian bishopric. The town is historically linked to the philosopher and novelist Apuleius, who was born there in the second century.
