The Macao Museum is a city museum on Monte Hill in Macau, focused on the history and culture of the territory. It occupies part of the Mount Fortress complex and forms part of Macau’s Historic Centre.

The museum was created in the late 20th century to document and interpret Macau’s local history and multicultural heritage. It was sited within the Mount Fortress, a 17th century fortification, linking the displays directly to a historic urban landmark.

Sitting on Monte Hill in the Historic Centre, the museum is a short walk uphill from Senado Square and other core attractions of the Macau Peninsula. The site overlooks the central urban area and is accessible on foot from the lower city.

  • UNESCO location: Located in the Historic Centre of Macau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the site sits on Monte Hill immediately above Senado Square and the old colonial core.
  • Viewing point: The museum occupies part of the Mount Fortress complex and offers an outdoor terrace with views over the city and harbor, useful for short photo stops after exhibits.
