How to Get to Mabote
Mabote (Berea District) is approached overland after flying into Moshoeshoe I International Airport (MSU) in Maseru or via South African airports with a border crossing. Lesotho has no passenger rail service; ground travel uses shared minibuses, private transfers or rental cars, and rural roads can be slow.
Moshoeshoe I International Airport (MSU): The main international airport for Lesotho, located just outside Maseru. From MSU the journey to Berea District (where Mabote sits) is by road - there are no scheduled public rail connections. Ground travel times vary; expect at least 1-2 hours driving to reach many towns in Berea depending on the route and road conditions. Taxi or private transfer from MSU is the simplest option; rental cars are available at the airport.
Bloemfontein / South African airports (FAO/others): Some travelers fly into nearby South African airports (e.g., Bloemfontein or Johannesburg) and cross into Lesotho by road. If you choose this route, allow additional time for border formalities and a longer overland drive (several hours).
Train: Lesotho has no national passenger rail network; there is no train access to Mabote.
Bus / Minibus Taxis: Intercity minibuses (shared taxis) and coach services operate between Maseru and larger Berea towns such as Teyateyaneng (T.Y.). From Teyateyaneng you will usually need a local taxi or community transport to reach smaller settlements like Mabote.
