Luray Caverns are a show cave complex near the town of Luray in Page County, Virginia, United States, and were opened to the public in the late 19th century. The caverns are among the best-known show caves on the U.S. eastern seaboard and attract visitors for their large underground chambers and mineral formations.

Notable interior highlights include extensive stalactite and stalagmite formations, large cathedral-like chambers and features presented on the guided visitor route. The site is also known for the Great Stalacpipe Organ and for reflective pools that form striking photographic compositions.

The caverns were developed for public visitation soon after their discovery in the 19th century and have been operated as a visitor attraction since that time. Over the years the site has been equipped with walkways, lighting and interpretive displays for touring.

Luray Caverns lie in the Shenandoah Valley of northern Virginia, adjacent to U.S. Route 211 and close to the town of Luray.

How to Get to Luray Caverns #

Luray Caverns sits just off US-211 in Luray, Virginia. From I-81 take exit 264 (Luray) and follow US-340/211 east for about 10-15 minutes; it’s signposted from the town center. The caverns are roughly 1.5 miles from downtown Luray and about 20 miles from Skyline Drive (Shenandoah National Park). Parking is on site.
