How to Get to Luojiang#

Luojiang (罗江) in Sichuan is best reached via the nearby airports at Chengdu (Shuangliu CTU or Tianfu TFU) or the closer Mianyang Nanjiao (MIG), with onward rail or bus links into Deyang/Luojiang. Trains to Deyang Railway Station and intercity buses are the common arrival options; expect to finish the journey by local bus or taxi.

By Air

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU): Approximately 80-100 km from Luojiang (Deyang area). From Shuangliu you can take an intercity coach or long-distance bus to Deyang (approx. 1-1.5 hours); fares are typically around RMB 25-45 and travel times about 60-90 minutes depending on traffic. Taxis or Didi rides to Luojiang will take about 60-90 minutes and cost roughly RMB 200-350 (approx.).

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU): Tianfu is newer and further southeast of Luojiang; travel time by car is usually 1-1.5 hours under light traffic. There are airport shuttle buses and intercity buses connecting Tianfu with Chengdu and surrounding cities - expect transfers via Chengdu; a one-way coach plus local transit typically totals around RMB 40-80 and 90-150 minutes door-to-door. A direct taxi/Didi to Luojiang will usually cost around RMB 250-400 and takes about 70-120 minutes depending on traffic.

Mianyang Nanjiao Airport (MIG): Mianyang Nanjiao is the closest commercial airport for northern Sichuan and is often quicker for the Deyang/Luojiang area. Ground transfer by taxi or Didi to Luojiang takes roughly 45-75 minutes and costs around RMB 120-220. There are also airport shuttle buses connecting Mianyang airport with Mianyang city and nearby county seats; combined with a short taxi or local bus the total trip generally runs RMB 30-70.

By Train & Bus

Train: The nearest major railway station serving this area is Deyang Railway Station (德阳站), which has frequent conventional and some high-speed services to Chengdu and other Sichuan cities. Typical travel time Chengdu-Deyang is around 40-70 minutes by train; ticket prices vary by service and class (roughly RMB 10-60 depending on seat class and train type). Mianyang Railway Station (绵阳站) is also nearby and useful if using services that call there.

Bus: Long-distance buses run to Deyang from Chengdu (e.g., Chengdu Xinnanmen or Chengdu South bus stations) and to neighbouring cities; fares to Deyang are commonly RMB 20-50 with journeys of about 60-90 minutes. Within the Deyang/Luojiang area there are local bus routes and regular county buses linking towns and the district centre - local fares are low (usually RMB 1-6). Taxis and Didi are widely available at bus and rail stations for the final short hop into Luojiang.

How to Get Around Luojiang#

Navigating Luojiang works best by mixing regional rail or intercity buses with short taxi/Didi hops for the final leg. For budget travel use trains or coaches into Deyang and transfer to local buses; for convenience and door-to-door trips use taxis or Didi.

  • Train (Deyang Railway Station) (RMB 10-60) - Deyang Railway Station (德阳站) is the main rail gateway for the area with frequent connections to Chengdu and other Sichuan cities. Travel times to Chengdu are around 40-70 minutes depending on the service; tickets vary by train type and seat class. From the station you can grab a taxi or local bus to reach Luojiang district - taxis are the fastest option for luggage or early/late arrivals.
  • Intercity & Local Bus (RMB 1-50) - Intercity coaches run between Chengdu, Mianyang and Deyang; they are the most economical choice and drop you at Deyang’s main bus terminals. Local county buses and town routes link Deyang with Luojiang - journeys are short and cheap but can be slow and infrequent off-peak, so check schedules. Use buses for budget travel and if you have light luggage.
  • Taxi & Didi (RMB 10-400) - Taxis and Didi are widely available and the most convenient way to reach specific addresses in Luojiang, especially from rail or bus stations. Fares for short intra-city trips are usually modest (RMB 10-40), while intercity rides (e.g., from Chengdu airports) can run RMB 150-400 depending on distance and surge. Didi often gives better pricing and easier payment via WeChat/Alipay for visitors with an account.
  • Airport Shuttle / Coach (RMB 25-80) - Airport shuttle buses and intercity coaches are a cost-effective way to connect Chengdu/Mianyang airports with Deyang; they drop at central bus stations where you can transfer to local buses or taxis. Schedules are regular but may require a transfer at Chengdu if coming from Tianfu. Bring cash for smaller routes and allow extra time for traffic.
  • Bicycle / Shared Bikes (RMB 1-5) - Shared bikes from platforms like Meituan/Mobike are common in urban parts of Deyang and Luojiang for short trips and last-mile travel. Pricing is low (usually RMB 1-2 for the first 30 minutes) and bikes are handy for exploring town centres, but availability drops in smaller suburbs. Check apps for operating zones and unlock requirements.
  • Walking - Many of Luojiang’s town centres are compact and walkable; walking is the best way to explore markets, temples and small streets at street level. Distances between towns and to major transport hubs can be long, so combine walking with buses or taxis for anything beyond a few kilometres.
