Lovćen

Lovćen is a compact mountain range and national park in southwestern Montenegro, notable for its rocky peaks and cultural monuments. The site is most famous for the mausoleum of the 19th-century ruler and poet Petar II Petrović-Njegoš near the summit.

Tourists come for short but steep drives or hikes to panoramic viewpoints that look out over the Bay of Kotor and the surrounding Adriatic coastline. The mausoleum near the top is a primary attraction; visitors can climb a stairway to reach the summit structure and surrounding viewpoints.

The area has long held cultural and strategic importance for Montenegrin people; the mausoleum commemorates Petar II Petrović-Njegoš and was constructed in the 20th century on a prominent peak. Lovćen has been protected as a national park to conserve its landscapes, historic sites and biodiversity.

Lovćen sits inland from the Bay of Kotor in southwestern Montenegro within Kotor Municipality, forming a rugged backdrop to coastal towns. The park is reached by road from Kotor and nearby coastal settlements.
