Lotrščak Tower is a medieval defensive tower in the Gornji Grad (Upper Town) area of Zagreb, Croatia, notable for its prominent hilltop position and historic cannon. The tower dates to the medieval period and forms part of the remains of the city’s old fortifications.
The tower houses the Grič cannon, which is sounded daily at noon as a time signal, and visitors come for the regular firing as well as the lookout over Zagreb’s rooftops and St. Mark’s Square. The interior includes exhibition space and a platform for city views.
Originally built as part of Zagreb’s fortifications in the Middle Ages, the tower has been rebuilt and adapted several times since its first construction and preserved as a historic structure. Its continuous urban role changed from defence to cultural and municipal use.
Lotrščak stands on the historic ridge of Grič in Zagreb’s Upper Town, within walking distance of St. Mark’s Square and other central historic sites; it is centrally located in the city of Zagreb.
