London Central Mosque

The London Central Mosque, commonly called the Regent’s Park Mosque, is a major mosque on the edge of Regent’s Park in central London. It was completed and opened in the 1970s and serves as one of the city’s principal Islamic places of worship.

The complex includes a large domed main prayer hall visible from the park and a distinct Islamic cultural and community centre attached to the mosque. The exterior features a prominent dome and a minaret, while the interior prayer spaces are arranged for daily and congregational worship.

The mosque building was constructed in the late 1960s and 1970s and formally opened in the 1970s as a purpose-built central mosque for London. Over time it has served both religious functions and community and educational activities for Muslim communities in the city.

The mosque sits on the northern edge of Regent’s Park in the Marylebone/Baker Street area of central London, within walking distance of central transport hubs and tourist areas.

• Timing: Friday midday prayers attract the largest congregations, so touring the building is easiest outside Jumu'ah times.
• Visitor conduct: Modest dress is expected inside; shoes are removed before entering the main prayer area on most visits.
