Loch Shiel is a long, remote freshwater loch in the West Highlands of Scotland, set in a narrow glen with steep slopes and sparse settlement. The loch is noted for its wild character and for the natural habitats along its shores.

The area around the loch has seen relatively little modern development and offers boat access, walking routes and viewpoints. The loch and nearby landscape have been used as film locations for several feature films.

Loch Shiel lies in the Lochaber area of the Highlands near the village of Glenfinnan and is accessed from regional roads that connect the western Highlands.

  • Proximity to Glenfinnan: The loch is a largely undeveloped, deep freshwater lake in the West Highlands and is close to the Glenfinnan Monument and railway viaduct.
