Liuhe Pagoda
Tower Tall Song-dynasty pagoda overlooking the Qiantang River
A multi-storey pagoda on Hangzhou’s Qiantang River, originally constructed in the Song era; travelers visit for historic architecture and views across the river and nearby tea country.
Liuhe Pagoda, commonly called the Six Harmonies Pagoda, is a historic Buddhist pagoda on the banks of the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The original pagoda dates to 970 AD, and the standing tower reflects subsequent repairs and reconstructions.
The tower rises in a multi-tiered pagoda form and visitors can climb interior stairs to reach viewing levels that look out over the river and surrounding low hills. The tower’s exterior brickwork and eaves are characteristic of Chinese pagoda architecture and the building is set beside riverside terraces.
The pagoda was first erected in the late 10th century during the Northern Song period and has been repaired and rebuilt at several points since then to maintain its structure and appearance. It has served both religious functions and as a landmark for the river.
The site sits in the riverside suburbs of Hangzhou on the northern bank of the Qiantang River, within Zhejiang province. It is located within Hangzhou municipality, outside the historic West Lake area but accessible from the city.
- Founding date: Originally constructed in 970 during the Northern Song period; much of the visible structure reflects later repairs and reconstructions.
- Height and access: Approximately 13 storeys tall, with public access to upper levels for panoramic views over the Qiantang River.

- Thirteen-storey structure: The pagoda has 13 main exterior tiers and an internal spiral stair that historically provided access to successive floors and the upper viewing levels.
