Limbang is humid year‑round with the heaviest rains during the northeast monsoon (Nov-Mar) and somewhat drier conditions in June-August. Visit in the drier months for easier jungle trips and more reliable boat crossings.

Northeast Monsoon
November - March · 23-31°C (73-88°F)
Heavy, persistent rain makes river travel challenging but nourishes lush forest life; expect humidity, muddy trails, and far fewer visitors.
Inter-monsoon
April - May · 24-33°C (75-91°F)
Shorter, unpredictable storms with steamy heat; great wildlife activity but flights and small-boat schedules can be disrupted, so plan flexibly.
Southwest Monsoon
June - October · 24-32°C (75-90°F)
Relatively drier and sunnier - best time for mangrove walks, border visits and long boat trips, though humidity remains high.

How to Get to Limbang

Limbang is a small border town in northern Sarawak served by Limbang Airport (LMN) and road links to Miri and Brunei. Short domestic flights and shared vans are the usual ways to arrive; there is no rail service.

By Air

Limbang Airport (LMN): Limbang has its own airport (LMN) with regular MASwings flights to/from Miri and occasionally to Kota Kinabalu. Flights from Miri take about 25-35 minutes; expect domestic fares roughly RM80-RM200 one-way depending on advance purchase. Taxis from the airport to the town centre take about 5-10 minutes and cost around RM8-RM20.

Brunei / Miri via road: For arrivals at Miri Airport (MYY) or Bandar Seri Begawan (BWN), shared vans and buses run across the border into Limbang (via the Limbang-Brunei overland crossings). Road transfer times vary (Miri-Limbang ~1-1.5 hours); typical shared-van fares are about RM10-RM30 per person.

By Train & Bus

Bus/Minivan: Regular minibuses and shared vans connect Limbang with nearby Miri and Lawas; journey times are about 1-2 hours depending on border formalities. Fares are typically RM10-RM30. These are the most common public-ground option for visitors.

No national rail service: Limbang is not on Malaysia’s rail network. Overland travel is by road only (buses, shared vans, taxis); if you need rail, travel to Miri and continue by road from there.

How to Get Around Limbang #

Limbang’s town center is small enough to walk between most amenities, especially along the riverfront and main streets. For longer trips there are local taxis and shared vans; buses connect Limbang with other towns in northern Sarawak but services can be infrequent, so check schedules ahead.
