Ulu Temburong National Park Travel Guide

Covering almost 40 percent of Brunei’s isolated Temburong District, Ulu Temburong National Park is considered one of the country’s best preserved segments of tropical rainforest.

Spanning wilderness habitats from jungle rainforest to lowland forest and montane forest that reaches elevations of nearly 2,000m, the park is home to many endangered species including the Wagler’s pit viper, Kuhl’s creek frog, 400 species of butterfly and the adorable Bornean gibbon.

After an Indiana Jones style adventure getting here by longboat you can explore the park on foot via elevated wooden walkways, trails and nerve-wrecking suspension bridges. The tree-top Canopy Walkway is gentle enough for all abilities and reaches a height of 60m while the Temburong River rapids and steep climbs are available for those in search of a challenge.

Chalets are available in the park for those who want to stay overnight, which is recommended if you want to see the early morning animal and bird activity. Early morning is the best time to tour the park.

Getting There & Away

Access is from Bandar Seri Begawan, where there is an international airport. From the capital, the journey can be completed by traditional longboat along river corridors (1 hour) and then a bus ride to the longboat departure point for the park (30 minutes). After another two-hour longboat journey, you will arrive at the park headquarters.
